Pearkes

[NL] (English below) Pearkes (Fries voor paartjes) zijn tweeluiken bestaande uit een landschap en een abstracte vertaling van dat landschap. In de abstracte vertaling zoek ik naar boeiende kleurtonen in dat landschap. De serie is een referentie naar de serie Pearkes van de Friese kunstenaar Willem van Althuis. In deze Pearkes maakte Van Althuis een abstracte vertaling in strepen van een figuratief schilderij. Het bijzondere van het verstilde werk van Willem van Althuis is dat hij figuratief werk bleef maken nadat hij een ontwikkeling naar abstract werk had gemaakt, hij wisselde figuratief en abstract werk af. En dat doe ik ook graag in mijn werk.

Het eerste beeld is gemaakt op de Faeröer Eilanden. Het sneeuwde net een half uur en terwijl ik op de terugweg was, brak de zon opeens door en verlichtte de pyramideberg.

Het tweede beeld is van een bijna verticale bergwand met sneeuw en ijs op de Lofoten eilanden, boven de poolcirkel in Noorwegen. In de abstracte vertaling zoek ik naar de minimalistische witte, blauwe, grijze en zwarte kleurtonen die in de bergwand te vinden zijn.

[EN] Pearkes (pairs) are diptychs that consist of a landscape and an abstract translation of that landscape. In the abstract translation I search for the fascinating color tones that can be found in that landscape.

The first image was made on the Faroe Islands. It was snowing and suddenly the golden light broke through the clouds and illuminated the pyramid mountain.

The second image is an almost vertical mountain wall with snow and ice on the Lofotes Islands, above the arctic circle in Norway. In the abstract translation I search for the minimalistic whites, blues, grays and black color tones that can be found in the mountain wall.
